How to Book

Just text Jamie at (608) 293-1700 to learn about availability and reserve your dates.

Other Important Details
Please read these before arriving (and read all the slides above too thanks!)

1.
Please leave the cabin how you found it
You are responsible for providing your own meals, washing the dishes you use, and leaving the cabin in the same condition that you found it in. This is not a hotel and there are no housekeeping services, so we kindly ask that you help us keep the cabin tidy and do any needed light cleaning before leaving so it’s ready for the next guests, who may arrive the same day that you leave.

Additional Surface & Handle wipe downs are required during Covid times. We have a simple checklist to follow to help keep the cabin as safe as possible for each guest.
2.

You're welcome to bring your kids, but please know the risks.

You can bring kids at your own discretion, but please understand the risks.

The cabin is situated about 15 yards from the edge of a sheer 100 ft cliff with no railing or fence to protect children or adults from falling off.

The main heating source for the cabin is an exposed gas fireplace which gets extremely hot and will burn you if you touch it while running.

There are several other risks associated with visiting a rugged, remote area like this one.

If you are not the legal guardian of the children you are brining, we must have a signed liability waiver from the legal guardian of the children BEFORE you arrive. Thanks!

Should you choose to bring children, it's your duty to supervise them at all times to ensure their saftey.

3.
Pets are not allowed, sorry.

4.
You may or may not have cell phone coverage.
Verizon and AT&T have great coverage here. T-Mobile will not work at all. Other carriers are hit or miss.
5.
There is no Internet or TV in the Cabin, but...
We do have high-speed internet in our home that you may use, or you can go to the welcome center at Tettegouche State Park (3 miles to the south) for fast, free internet with lots of tables, a fireplace, a basic coffee shop and a gift shop.
6.
You can fit more than 8 people if you get really cozy
If you are a large family with lots of kids and they don't mind sleeping on the chairs, floors, etc, you can fit a few extra people in the cabin. We also have space in our yard for tent camping, plus a large enough driveway space for a big RV (but no power/water in the space where it fits). Talk with us if you have a larger than normal group and we can discuss options.
7.
We would love to hang out with you if we know you and you want to, but...
If you are a friend or family member and are hoping to spend a bunch of time with us, we'd LOVE that. But since we work too and we have guests here all the time, we will need to know that when you book your dates so we can make sure it works with our schedule as well.

We can almost always make a little bit of time work (like sharing a meal or having coffee or something) without having to worry about it in advance, but if you want to spend a lot of time with us, you will need to let us know before setting a date.

That being said, there's absolutely no obligation to hang out with us at all, even if you know us really well. We want you to be blessed by your time here, and we give you complete freedom to simply do your own thing without feeling obligated to hang with us at all.
8.
My youngest daughter is EXTREMELY allergic to shellfish & peanuts
While I have no problem with you having shellfish and peanuts in the cabin, please take caution not to drop things like trail mix outside where she may come across it (she's young and may not know to avoid it). Please keep them contained in the cabin and do a very thorough wipe-down after cooking and eating these foots. Thanks for respecting this and taking care to help me keep my daughter safe.

9.
I recommend purchasing groceries before arriving
While we do have a small-town grocery store about 15 min away, it's VERY expensive, limited in selection, and not very fresh. We recommend purchasing groceries in Two Harbors at the Super One grocery store (about 40 min prior to arriving here) if you want to get groceries closer to your arrival. Gas is often cheapest there as well.

There are only 9 restaurants within 20 min of here. My favorites are Lemon Wolf in Beaver Bay (Fresh Fish & Scandinavian/Local Inspired meals, around $20 per person), and Coho Cafe in Tofte (variety of sandwiches, pizzas, etc, around $15 per person). The Rustic Inn in Castle Danger is about 30 min away and has the best pie on the shore according to locals (sorry, Betty!) and has traditional home cooked meals around $15-$20 per person.

If you really enjoy eating out, I recommend making the drive to Grand Marais (about an hour north of here) and eating at one of the many restaurants there or treating yourself to some of the "World's Best Donuts" if you're there in the summer. I'm happy to share my favorites there or in Duluth as well.
10.

There are tons of great things to do in the area
There are an incredible number of beautiful things to see and do on the North Shore, and I'd be happy to share my favorite activities and places with you based on what you enjoy most. There's several waterfalls within about 5 miles of here, incredible hikes, beautiful cross country ski trails, snowmobiling, some swimming holes, cliff diving, rock climbing, and more. There's an outfitters about 20 min north of here if you want to rent kayaks, skis, bikes, or anything else, plus we have some equipment you can use if you like.

I also have a little bit of private beach which is great for finding agates and relaxing without any crowds, and about 9 acres of woods which you can explore.

11.
There's a fire pit with plenty of wood you can use.
I have an outdoor fire pit in the yard, with plenty of firewood, or you can
have a fire on the beach if you would prefer to do that.
12.
The weather on the shore is not the same as inland.
Being so close to the lake, we generally have cool summers (rarely over 75F unless the wind is blowing off the land on a hot day) so bring layers. Depending on when you are here, there may be a 25 degree difference between what the Silver Bay temperatures are and what we actually experience at our home. In early summer, it's not unusual for temps to be 80 in town and 55 here on the shore.

You may also want to bring slippers for the cabin as the floor stays quite cold year round and is not carpeted. You may also want to bring water shoes or booths if you'd like to walk to the bigger beach by our place (it requires getting feet wet, but is only a few inches deep).
13.
We live in the woods, so expect bugs in summer
From biting flies, to "No See'ums" to mosquitoes, June through mid-August tend to be our buggiest months. Some years are worse than others, and we're not quite as bad on the shore as they are inland, but expect to see a few bugs here and there.
14.
You probably need to know this, too....
No smoking is allowed on our property.

The quilts in the cabin are hand-made and are not easy to clean. Please treat them with care and do not place luggage on them or put them on the floor. Please fold them and put them on the dresser if it is too warm to use them, and please do not put shoes on them. Thanks!

Parking: Please do not park in the circle on the driveway. Unloading there is fine, but please move your vehicle and park by the first garage you see, the one right next to the cabin, once the unloading is completed. I've got a 15-passenger van that is hard to back down around the driveway when it's blocked, so I really appreciate it.
